Dapper Day

April 28th and 29th 2018

We arrived a little early at Epcot on day two of Dapper Day weekend. We stayed toward the front of the park so that we could see other friends as they came in. Many of them stopped to take a photo with the banner we had made. Throughout the day others posed with the banner, as you can see from some of the following photos. There are different views of the park in the various photos.

We had lunch with a small group of friends and ran late for the group photo shoot, but Megan and Lexie, Anna, and Mark and Serena waited for us to catch up with them by the lagoon so we could have a chance to get some photos and see them for a while. It seems there is never enough time during Dapper Day to see everyone you want to see.
What a handsome couple! Again, Joanie made her dress, Ray made his pocket square. We found Ray’s three-piece suit at a thrift store for a very reasonable price. His tie was made by the talented Lawrence Stoen of That Guy! Bow Ties. Ray’s hat was bought online. Joanie already had the vintage hat and purse, and her gloves were bought online.

There is always a little chaos and lots of commotion as we gather together to get a big group photo. Joanie is still living in the past, so she thinks she is still tall enough to stand in the back. She always has to be reminded that she is not tall any more and has to move to the front. Then there are first time attenders who don’t know where they should stand, and a few who just can’t decide whether they want to be in the photo or not, but who finally decide to join the group and have to be fit in somewhere. But once we are all lined up, we look great. Our colorful outfits make the group photo beautiful.
Once the big group photo is done, several smaller groups want the photographers to take a picture of their family or group of friends. After that, people seem to scatter and head their own way to explore the park and all that it has to offer.
Sometimes people just linger around to admire each other’s outfits and talk about where they came from. This is often the time new friendships are made. Someone will compliment someone else on their shoes, accessories, the material in their clothing, or even where they got their particular outfit. It is a good sharing time and most are happy to tell people all about their “finds”.
Here and there in the park, you’ll find small groups gathered to take photos. Photographers are nearly everywhere, and with cell phones taking such good pictures now, if there’s not a photographer handy, usually strangers are willing to take a group picture for you. We often run into people just by chance and get invited to join them in their photos. Because Dapper Day is only loosely organized, encounters with friends and acquaintances can happen anywhere and at any time. It makes the day much more interesting.
Look out Italy! Here we come.
We found Lindsey in France.
And Vanessa in her gorgeous butterfly dress!
Daniel and Annmarie in florals this time, to rival the displays at the Flower and Garden Festival.
Anna found Rapunzel. Each of them is an admirer of the other.
Traci as gorgeous as ever. Another self-made creation.
Lawrence’s darling daughter, Ally. This time Lawrence is dressed to represent Richard, the greeter at the front entrance to the Grand Floridian hotel outside the Magic Kingdom.
Ray and Joanie are admiring Daisy Duck in her floral finest.
Fiona has one of the best parasol collections we know
Marina as the queen of hearts, Jessica, Millie and Ellen. All such elegant ladies.
Joanie and Cortney with another of her elaborate hats. This time she has what seemed like a million butterflies. And look at the darling mushroom purse she is carrying!
This is what happens when you miss the big group photo, but your friends wait for you until you arrive later. We were graced by the presence of Megan, Tim and Nikki who will be married this summer, Anna, Roger, Lexie, Serena and Mark. They are all such fun. The action never stops when any of them are around. As you might be able to tell, Megan is pretty good with the selfies.
