We recently had to renew our annual passes for Disney World. This cast member was so impressed with our outfits that he asked if he could have his photo taken with us. Of course, we obliged. We have had several cast members either ask to have a photo taken with us, or they call their supervisor over to take a photo of us in our outfits. It is a good feeling to know that the cast members appreciate our clothing and the details we add to make our outfits complete.
We finally got to meet Gertie, who designs patterns for the Butterick pattern company. Last year our sewing group put out a challenge for everyone to take one of her patterns, Butterick B6453, and make a dress. After we all had our dresses completed, we met at Disney Springs to have a day to show off our dresses and compare our final looks. Joanie did the full-skirt version in hot pink, as you can see here. There were many dresses made from exactly the same pattern and each one was unique. There were lots of florals, some with pencil skirts and some with full skirts. The different interpretations made a beautiful group photo. To see the entire collection from our group, check our event site on this website.
As you can see, Gertie has a variety of vintage styled patterns sold through the Butterick company. She emphasizes the retro look that so many of us adore. She also does sewing workshops, has written a book on sewing techniques and has a Facebook group where you can get tips on working with any of her patterns and ask questions or just show off your creations made with her patterns.
Dapper Day eve, the evening before the official Dapper Day, many people gather in Disney Springs to get a head start on the festivities for the weekend. It is a comfortable place to meet other fancy people and renew acquaintances. Disney Springs vendors usually have some special offers or give-aways for attendees, and there is a feeling of excitement in the air. People come and go at their own pace, and it is just a fun evening. This year Chapel Hats had a fashion show parade and gave away some gift certificates, some of the restaurants and bars offered drinks especially designed for the Dapper Day crowd. In the past there have been DJ’s playing swing music that drew crowds of dancers to show off their style.
There is plenty of time to check out vintage jewelry that ladies choose to wear to accessorize their dresses. Hats always play an important part, and vintage hairstyles are one of the big attractions, too.
Shoes have also become a very important accessory. It is not only important to look good, but they must also be comfortable. These shoes accomplish both goals. This young lady completed her outfit with a parasol, vintage purse and gloves, as well as the hat. She was one of the winners of the fashion show parade at Chapel Hats that evening.
