Joanie loves to find the ladies on Main Street

Disney parked the double decker bus just for photos

First thing in the morning Disney got out the double decker bus and the fire engine and parked them so we could get some nice photos. Other people got some nice photos also.

What should I

wear???

Many of the ladies said this was the first time for their husbands to come to dapper day. Now with the report of the weather at 97º and it being Florida, that’s hot. So many of them said the husband is still coming but NO coat. Even some of the ladies said they were changing their minds on what to wear. No long sleeves.

Dapper Day at the Magic Kingdom

Seeing a lot of friends and making new ones.

It was so much fun even with the heat.

I made my vest. I had seen the old Time Machine movie and one of the characters had a vest like this. I decided it had the exact detail I wanted, so I made myself a pattern and made the vest for this outfit.

Alexa is just one of our Darlin’ friends,

She temporarily moved o Georgia, but she’s back now and we’re so glad she is. Joanie’s hat has a ribbon so that if it is windy, she can tie it like this and keep it from flying off. You won’t see it tied under her chin in most of the photos.

She says they are her fashion goal.

Joanie joined the campaign for getting women the vote. The main suffragette was there getting women in the spirit
Crystal is my Disney Daughter. We always have to get a photo together.
Anna, Lexie and Crystal ready for the day. Crystal’s parasol was a good sun block from the extreme heat, even early in the day.
Anna and Lexie are always ready for some unique photos. You never know what pose you’ll get from them.
Candise, Brian and Jovan, always dress in character.
Alexandra makes the castle look good.
Alexa shielded herself from the heat by using an umbrella.
Ann P, Brittany and others. Twirling is not a crime.
Classic Jessica
Our ladies love to twirl and show their pretty dresses and petticoats.
Megan and Lexie, always color coordinated.
Sherri almost always makes John and Baxter’s vests match her outfit. She made her dress from same material as her high school prom dress was.
Dapper Day brings out the most creative and fashionable clothing imaginable. It seems that thousands of people feel the same way that we do - As a rule, the general public has become complacent about how we dress. So twice a year, we enjoy getting all dressed up and look like Walt Disney and his family would have looked when they visited the park. We are often surprised at the number of men who like to dress with all the added details just like the ladies do. The best part of Dapper Day is, there is no designated theme besides just looking good. That concept is open to interpretation, but each attendee looks great in their own outfit. We have seen hats with extreme feather arrangements, fancy shoes on men and women, parasols of all descriptions, themed handbags, walking canes, vintage jewelry of all types, often inherited from family members, color coordinated couples, whole families dressed in matching outfits, people paying tribute to past military, and of course, the influence of Disney characters in outfits. We often see people exchanging information about their outfits. On Dapper Day, everyone compliments each other on their look, and people love sharing where they obtained their outfit, or gives tips about how they made the outfit or accessories. It’s not unusual for complete strangers to start conversations. And of course, regular Disney guests ask why everyone is so dressed up. We have heard a variety of answers, but most of the time, attendees are very gracious about telling the guests all about the history of Dapper Day and why we are dressed unusually well for going to the park. We always assure people that we are not Disney cast members, we are just people who like looking good.

Below are just a few shots of many of the friends we love dressing up with.

These are people we expect to see at each Dapper Day celebration.

A couple weeks before Dapper Day, the single girls started posting on social media about how they wanted to let people know they are single and eligible, or single and happy about it. So very often, Dapper Day sparks a lot of proposals. One of our ladies suggested that the singles wear pins that said “Single” so that other attendees could easily identify them. That evolved into some of them making specialized pins for a lot of the singles. I think there were over 25 pins given out with a variety of styles and colors. They made for a good conversation starter for a lot of them. At the same time, Addy posted that she wanted to know if she needed to invest in waterproof mascara because she wanted to be prepared in case someone proposed to her over the weekend. Well, who can pass up a thought like that? Joanie said that she would donate Ray to the cause if anyone wanted a man, but Addy didn’t think that would be appropriate since he’s already married. As the time got closer, we decided that there needed to be some proposals over the weekend. We have a collection of costume rings that are even in ring boxes, so we started setting up scenarios for Ray to make proposals. Since Addy was the one who mentioned it to start with, we decided she should be the main proposal. Disney had set up special meeting places, give-aways with some of the merchants, and activities throughout Disney Springs for Friday evening. A group of us met at Disney Springs for the evening. When we caught up with a bunch, we decided it was time for the proposal. Ray worked his way over to Addy, got down on his knee and proposed to Addy on the sidewalk. Of course everybody went crazy and Addy went right along with it. But then she said, “Wait, aren’t you already married?” Joanie said she’d be glad to give him up and Ray said he’d go right away to Mexico and get a quick divorce. It made a fun scene for everyone and they all got a good laugh out of it. Once things had settled down, some of the other ladies complained that Ray had proposed to Addy and not to them. Well, they should know to be careful what they say. We can’t leave something like that alone.
Dani was one of the ladies who protested when Ray proposed to Addy. She was also one of them who had special “Single” pins made for them to wear during the weekend. Of course, Ray didn’t want anyone to feel left out, so she was his next proposal. We waited for a large group to be congregated together, and then he got down on one knee and proposed to her. Of course, you can tell from her expression that she was thrilled and accepted right away.
Next, Kirstie said she was upset because Ray was proposing to everyone, but not to her. Joanie reminded her that the day was only beginning, and you never know what might happen during Dapper Day weekend. A couple hours later, there he was, proposing to Kirstie. She was thrilled, but Dani seemed to take exception to the fact that he had proposed to her earlier in the day and was now asking another woman to marry him. She was ready to give up on him, but it seemed that the crowd consoled her and she recovered enough to forgive him. Something tells me that this won’t be the last of the marriage proposals from Ray. He seems to be getting better at it as time goes on. Stay tuned and we will report to you if we hear of other proposals happening.
Disney coordinated with the Dapper Day folks to provide some activities at Disney Springs the night before the official Dapper Day at the parks. There was a meet up at one of the bars, there were several merchants who offered free gifts or samples to dressed up participants, there was a pop-up store that offered themed clothing and cute dresses for the weekend, and there was a dance party on one end of the pedestrian walk. Many people showed up just to see each other and take advantage of the beautiful evening and all the festivities. The weather was warm, the music was great, the clothing was colorful and fashionable, and the company was fun.
Where there is swing music, you can usually find Jason. He loves swing dancing and knows some fabulous moves. When he finds a partner like Alexandra, his talent shines. Because he is tall, he can do flips and dips and none of his partners ever worries that he won’t be able to complete a fancy move.
Because Jason loves swing dancing so much, he is always willing to dance with whomever wants to take a spin. There is usually a group waiting to be his next partner. He seems to make every partner feel at ease and comfortable with his dance moves.
