Welcome to Dapper Day

Fall Dapper Day brought a surprise..

Twice a year you get to see friends and very cool clothing.

In the fall of 2019, Florida experienced something unusual. Dapper Day weekend we had temperatures about 10 degrees below the normal for this time of year. For veteran Dapper Day attendees, we are used to suffering a little from the heat. This year, a few days before the Dapper Day weekend festivities, we were seeing people scrambling to find warmer clothes, coats, furs and gloves in order to stay warm and still look very vintage and dapper. The night before Dapper Day weekend, or Dapper Day eve as it has become known, is a time for people to gather and begin to get acquainted, or reacquainted with friends. Dapper Day eve is a casual gathering of folks, dressed in vintage clothing. We saw many people opting for staying inside some of the stores and restaurants rather than spending a lot of time roaming outside the businesses. Because this is strictly an evening event, at Dapper Day eve we will often see very formal attire. Some of the attendees go all out looking their absolute dapper best. Others lean more toward the more casual, but still dressy looks and some dress very vintage for the evening. Accessories are a must, and we continue to see walking canes, top hats, scarves, gloves and vintage jewelry. It is truly a feast for the eyes. And of course, the photographers are out in full force looking for the very best. Because of the fall date for Dapper Day weekend, Disney Springs was decorated for the Christmas season, and many attendees took the time to do the Christmas Tree Stroll with all the trees decorated for different Disney movies and characters.
Dapper Day Eve

Because of the drop in temperature, it was nice to have furs, gloves, hats and extra layers of clothing tto keep us warm in the chilly night air. The Christmas decorations in the Disney Springs area made the atmosphere even more festive.
On Dapper Day eve, excitement fills the air. People are beginning to show their style and are anxious to see old friends and meet new people we haven’t met yet.
Who doesn’t love seeing a life-sized nutcracker who will pose with you for a special fall photo?
Officially, Dapper Day is Saturday and Sunday. We always like to make our own special buttons to wear. Ray always makes a design that is appropriate for the season. People always ask where we got our buttons, and we have to explain that they are a one-of-a-kind specifically just for us.
We first met Thomas and Jessica at Dapper Day in the spring of 2016, but we have run into them several times at other events since.
The gas pumps just inside the entrance to Disney’s Hollywood Studios are always a favorite place to get photos. They attract a lot of attention. And of course, the other iconic place to get photos is in front of the Chinese theater at the end of the main street. This is the former location of the Great Movie Ride, and is being transformed into a new ride featuring Mickey and Minnie to be opened in the future.
Such a variety of clothing styles and “looks” make Dapper Day a treat for every taste possible. The period clothing ranges from the late 1900’s to as late as the 1960’s. Every participant has free choice to dress as they please. We love too see the interpretations of people’s personalities and tastes. The men always find interesting ways to look dapper for the period they have chosen. Many of the women and several of the men do their own sewing to get just the look they want. Others pride themselves in knowing local vintage shops where they shop and get great bargains on clothing and accessories to complete their looks.
Because the temperature took an unexpected drop, some of the ladies who had their outfits planned for several weeks still wore them and added shawls or sweaters to stay warmer. A few just wore their outfits the way they had originally planned and suffered with the cold. Most of the men were happy to see the lower temperatures because they could wear their 3-piece suits and be comfortably warm rather than sweltering in the heat they usually endure.
Always Dapper couples
Monica and MacKenzie
Elizabeth is always a classic.
Hannah wore a special silk shawl given to her as a gift from a family member.
Scott is always in demand to pose with the pretty girls.
We found this young lady and several of her friends all dressed in authentic vintage clothing. She was happy to tell us that she had found her outfit in a vintage store and the detail on the suit was perfection.
Shoes are always a topic of conversation. Men and women alike take pride in finding just the right look for the era they are wearing.
Old friends and new gather during the day to show off their looks and get better acquainted. There are always many cameras and photo opportunities throughout the weekend. We love hearing the details about each person’s outfit and why it is significant to them. And when we see children dressed up fancy, it just adds to the fun of the day. The kids, especially the little girls, love to show off their dresses and aren’’t afraid to pose for the cameras. And the boys in suits or period clothing are just as happy to be seen.
These twins never disappoint us with their vintage looks. And the man with them blends right in with them.
Erin had the right idea using a muff to keep her hands warm, and it fit into her holiday themed look perfectly. Cameron made a great addition to her photo, too.
We always love seeing Crystal and the kids. We loved their interpretation of Lady Tremaine and the wicked stepsisters of Cinderella fame.
Candise and the boys, endearingly known as Beauty and the Beards, are always a treat for the eyes. Their ideas are always classic.
Brandy and the girls kept warm with capes she made.
Liz, Sherri and their friends.
Beauty and the Beards Alan, Jovan, Candise and Brian
Katelyn is one of our special friends. Always looks so cute!
Beverly and Jeana managed to find another matched set just like themselves.
New babies to the group are carrying on the tradition of being Dapper. There were two new babies since the previous Dapper Day in the spring and Aiden was still new to the dapper trend, but looking as good as ever. We are raising up a new generation of people who will love dressing up as much as we do.
Amanda and Lucy was a vision in floral pink.
