Dapper Day in the Fall

Dapper Day eve, as it has come to be known, brings together people who love dressing up. This year the meeting was on the upper level of the Paddlefish restaurant in Disney Springs. As you can see in some of the photos, the evening was chilly, which provided the perfect atmosphere for wearing furs and coats that we normally don’t see during Dapper Day. Fur stoles and hats seemed to be the favorite garments of choice on Friday evening.

Dapper Day activities now begin on the Friday evening before Dapper Day. Groups of people meet at designated places to meet and greet each other and show off some of their finest clothing looks.
We had a chance to catch up with many friends, and also got to meet some new people we hadn’t met before. Ludwig and Brandy Grossi and their twin daughters Regan and MacKenzie, were there in style. Brandy made a matching skirt for herself and a vest for Ludwig. All three ladies in the family sported white fur hand muffs to keep themselves warm. Millie Trevino and her son Logan regularly attend costumed events, but Friday night we were able to welcome her handsome husband Rick to the group. Very few of us had met him before that evening. Loren Omer was there wearing a wonderful outfit looking very much like Edna from The Incredibles 2 movie. For those of us a little older, we a reminded of the famous movie fashion designer Edith Head.
We took a short break from the planned activities on Friday night and went to see a show at the Port Orleans Resort. We followed it up with a few photos by their large Christmas tree.
Janiery Rivas’ son Xavier is just over a year old, and he is rapidly becoming one of the most dapper gentlemen you will ever meet. He was fascinated with the antique wicker baby carriage and had great fun pushing it around the landing at the train station in the Magic Kingdom.
Iris Nieves is fairly new to the group, but she has become one of the regular attendees at Dapper Day events. She always puts her outfits together so well and looks like she stepped right out of a retro fashion magazine. She often makes her own stylish headwear.
Affectionately known as Beauty and the Beards, Candise, Brian and Alan have added another member to their group. Yahaira now makes them Beauties and the Beards. Here they represent characters from the Disney movie, The Lion King. Their third “beard” Jovan, is missing from this picture.
Millie and Angela are two ladies who can’t be missed. They are always ready for a photo.
Treasure Wolfe is one of our younger members, but she always looks extra cute on any occasion. Photographers always seem to find time to get adorable pictures of her.
The end of a long day at the Magic Kingdom. The balloons can carry you away, up into the sky if you’re not careful!
Brittany Woolley brought a touch of the 1940’s style to Dapper day this year. In the center photo, Anerin Martone made her outfit to bring Steamboat Willy back into focus and made her friend’s outfit to work in with the same fashion era. They looked wonderful in the Magic Kingdom setting.
The fun thing about Dapper Day weekends is that it brings styles together from many different decades and makes everyone who sees the clothing smile. If park guests haven’t heard of Dapper Day before, they are first taken by surprise, and then often wish they had known sooner so that they could join in on the fun. But everyone is very excited about the whole concept and loves to see everyone’s interpretation of “dapper”.
Of course, because Dapper Day weekend was in November this year, all of the Disney parks were decorated and ready for Christmas. It made the whole weekend even more festive.
Dapper Day always gives us opportunities to meet new people. We met this lovely couple on the monorail and they were charming. Their style was fabulous and we hope we’ll run into them again sometime in the future.
There are so many photo possibilities with Dapper Day. It is never hard to find scenery to add charm to the photos, and of course, when the parks are decorated for Christmas, the opportunities are almost endless.
It was still chilly on Saturday morning, so Joanie started out the day with a sweater, but the air warmed up quickly and the rest of the day was comfortable and even very warm.
Daisy and Ricardo
Joanie and her “Disney daughter” Crystal Wood. It has become a custom from the first day we met to have a photo of Crystal and Joanie.
Crystal and her husband James joined us. When James first started coming to events, he wasn’t sure he wanted to dress up, but Crystal started sewing and made matching clothing for the two of them. This year they have both lost a lot of weight, and James treated himself to a new outfit from a local men’s store. They looked so attractive together.
Daniel and Ann Marie looking as dapper as always. This is such an attractive couple, and Daniel likes to dress even brighter than Ann does. They always look striking together.
We stopped in a Cracker Barrel to eat, and the sign above is hung on one of the walls. It is from the town where Joanie grew up and was one of the premier men’s stores in town when she was young. How appropriate for a Dapper Day!
These are the kind of photos we get when we have friends who are professional photographers. They know how to pose us and look at backgrounds to make us look the very best. Thank you, John Finnegan, for making us look so good.
