Dapper Day at Walt Disney World Dapper Day is just a fun time to come dressed up in any decade you like. Most of the people come dressed in the 1940’s and 1950’s. You also have the flapper dress from the 1920’s. We have seen some very expensive clothing and some like a Pan Am stewardess. These photos are ours from Dapper Day at Magic Kingdom, Epcot, and Hollywood Studios. Dapper Day happens twice a year, please bring your friends and look for us at the next event.
A little Steampunk never hurt anyone.
Our friends had a Steampunk event in February of 2016 at Epcot. We had no Steampunk anything. So Ray started sewing and learning how to put it all together. He made his Steampunk coat and made the leather collar detachable so it would come off and the coat could be used for another event. We got Joanie a Steampunk hat at the Halloween store this October. The Steampunk group on Facebook had an event that we went to in Inverness. Fl. It was a train ride complete with a train robbery. There was a posse that rounded up the “bad guys” and lots of shooting to add to the effect. They even rode in on horses to add to the real feel of the story.
Star Wars in the 1920’s Could that really happen?
We are starting to look for more and more car shows. So if you know of some let us know. We are starting to
get other people to come with us. We just love talking to the car owners. Many of them just love that we
match year of the car. Some will even let us sit in the car and take pictures. One guy said “ this is what the
cars are all about, letting people enjoy looking at them and seeing the inside of the car.” He did not mind at
all that people would like to sit in his car. Thank You, we loved it.
One car had a Ike sticker on the side window and I told him about my Ike military jacket and would have to
find him at the next car show and wear my WWII uniform to get a picture with his car. It will look totally
authentic.
Hollywood Studios and the 100th anniversary of the Tower of
Terror. But what is this? Are aliens coming to earth? We just do
not know what to do. I know let’s call Orson Wells. He’ll know
what to do. After all he had aliens coming to earth to destroy it.
People were going to the streets looking for aliens and calling
the police. What a panic he caused.
Garden Party
Our friends had another day of looking good. So many people travel to the Dapper Day event and are staying for the full weekend. So they set up a day after the spring Dapper Day called Garden Party. I came in a suit that I bought from the Goodwill store. The store has everything in bins and they weigh the items. Joanie and I were on the way out of the store when she saw this suit. It was my size with coat, vest and pants. So we got it. The suit is newer but the colors are specks and I know I saw the same fabric on a old television show just the other day. So we got It and I love It. Look at all the stores. You can find something to add to what you have or, like this suit, find something that fits.

Easter Sunday at church
We decided that it’s good to dress up on Easter. We always did when we were kids. So we brought out some of our dress up clothes to go to church. The women all loved Joanie’s hat and several said we should designate a Sunday when we all wear hats to church. A few ladies still wear hats every Sunday, but most in our age group have abandoned that practice. There’s something about wearing a hat that just makes you feel extra fancy. And Ray’s outfit was a big hit. He opened the door for people entering the church and they were all impressed. One of the men in charge of the greeters took a picture of him on his cell phone and took it to show the pastor before the service started. He said the pastor got a good laugh out of it. Nobody ever knows what to expect from us.
We have a group of friends who were all stationed with the military in Germany
together in the early 1980’s. We get together every 2 years or so for reunions and
always have a good time. Last year we met in Gatlinburg, Tennessee. Without telling
anyone in the group, we decided to dress in our vintage clothing for one evening.
Most of the group wondered why we dressed so weird, but we think in the long run
they liked it. We went out to a dinner show with one of the couples the night before
the reunion actually started and dressed in our vintage clothing, too. They loved it, and
so did the servers at the dinner.
