Everywhere we looked on this beautiful ship, there were new treats for the eyes. The dining rooms were beautiful, with crisp linen and silver flatware, and crystal glassware on each table, just waiting for guests to be seated and be served the most elegant meals. The lounge areas were also beautifully appointed with plush upholstered chairs and glass tables. Each public area on the ship had the most amazing pieces of art. In some of the photos below you can see the enormous clock that was the crowning showpiece in the central atrium in the ship. It occupied a full three decks in space and was a beauty to behold on each level. Pieces like this crafted by artisans are rare anywhere on land. Hallways and corridors we adorned with artwork and paintings. Display areas held posters of new ships coming soon to this cruise line. It gave guests the impression that this cruise line will play an important part in ocean transportation for years to come.
We encountered several sculptures and paintings in various parts of the ship. The craftsmanship in these works is incredible, and truly made the voyage special. And how is it possible that there were fresh flower arrangements all over the ship each day? Such modern marvels! This very large bouquet was a centerpiece for one of the dining rooms. Isn’t it beautiful? The crew onboard the ship attends to all the minute details every day to make the trip memorable for all of the guests. Below you see more photos of different interior parts of the ship and common areas. All of the latest comforts are incorporated with the classical decor to blend into a relaxing and fabulous cruise environment.
Ray couldn’t resist posing with a few of the residents of the ship. These sculptures are just a few of the large pieces featured around the ship. It looks like one of them might have stolen Ray’s hat!
And of course, cruises bring out the romantic side of all of us. We couldn’t resist stealing a kiss once in a while as we enjoyed this beautiful cruise.
Ray had fresh lobster and Joanie had a prime rib dinner. For dessert we had a cheesecake topped with a special sauce from Chef Bram. When I asked for the recipe he just shook his head and said in Dutch, “Engels (Sorry).”
We have not been on the s.s. Statendam but plan to make a transatlantic sailing some day. It is a larger ship with more staterooms with large windows. They say someday ships will have balconies that open to the outside.
From Holland to New York in 9 days. The dancing and orchestra each night would be a delight. We could see ourselves dancing the waltz until 1 AM after just walking the top deck and enjoying the moonlight. Don’t forget to toss a coin over the side for good luck at midnight.
