We had a very nice cabin A524. We also were the first to have a telephone in the room. The ship to shore charge was not cheap, but we appreciated the convenience.
All of the service staff took great care of us. They were all willing to do above and beyond their official duties. This bellhop carried Joanie’s bags to our stateroom for her.
The ship was appointed with the finest artwork. Just a few of the classics available for viewing are shown here. Also, the decor of all of the public areas on the ship was quite elegant. The entire ship, including the dining rooms, was a true feast for the eyes, as well as for the palate.
Each day offered new opportunites to enjoy the special features of this elegant cruise. Of course, we took advantage of many of the offerings this cruise provided. The decor was always a treat as we became familiar with the different decks. We marveled at the artwork, and were treated to a Gala dining event on several occasions. These were special culinary treats prepared especially by the chefs.
As you can see from these photo, this is a completely modern ship with all of the amenities. There are spacious staterooms with all the modern conveniences, like your own private bathroom. And there were numreous decks just for staterooms. The other decks were devoted to dining and entertainment. Holland America Cruise Lines is looking forward to building new ships in the future to accommodate even more guests. Each one promises to bring even more elegance and conveniences to the cruising experience. They are even talking about making radio programs available to listen to sometime in the future. We might be able to hear the Green Hornet while we are traveling in the future!
One area of the ship had posters of new ships coming, as well as some of the destinations for some of the voyages. Joanie’s heart flutters when she sees a picture of the beautiful Statue of Liberty. Don’t these posters of ship to come make you just want them to hurry and build them? Who knows what new adventures await in the years to come. Our society is moving along so quickly. We hope cruising will always be as elegant as it is now, but they are saying it will be even better. We can’t imagine how that could possibly be.
Did we mention how beautiful the dining rooms are? There is seating for anywhere from 2 to 10, depending on the size of the party you are traveling with. Of course, being seated with other guest is always interesting. There is plenty of time to visit and learn about people between courses.
We always dress for dinner, as is the continental custom. After meals, we have time to look around the ship and take in all of the beautiful decor. Taking a stroll in the evening helps aid in digesting all of the gourmet food we have eaten during the day. And then it is off to the lounge area to enjoy the classical music of the Adagio duet. That is our after-dinner relaxation time, and the music is superb.
We loved listening to Adagio in the evenings. These ladies have trained for years to become accomplished musicians. They said they have loved traveling with Holland America Cruise Line around the world to many exotic destinations and ports. They make cruising more enjoyable for the guests who enjoy the culture that they bring.
All of the artwork and sculptures on this ship have a history. It was fascinating to read some of the details concerning stone work and the art on display everywhere.

Holland America

s.s. Rotterdam

14 day Southern Caribbean Vintage Cruise

We had a wonderful time on our 14 day cruise with Holland America. We had very good weather and divine food. They even had some cooking classes for Joanie. I lounged out by the pool. We got to see St. Thomas again but also went to some new places. Antigua, St. Lucia, Curacao, Aruba, Key West and Grand Cayman. We did not see Hemmingway in Key West. Everyone asks us that. But we did get to see some new very large artwork.

Adagio

Krystina (piano) and Katrina (Violin) entertained us nightly three times a night. They are from the Ukraineand have been together for over 10 years. They play classial music and take requests. I love Canon in D major. It is so nice that Holland America ships love the arts. So nice to just relax and enjoy good music. The kids today are getting into that new singer Elvis. We are all about the true music (The Classics)
We did not see His Majesty King Willem-Alexander and Her Majesty Queen Maxima from the Netherlands. They said they were sailing on the Ryndam. We took that ship through the Panama Canel last year. Very good cruise.
