I just love this photo. Hailey had a park guest take it for her. The Streets of America are gone now but we have this great photo. I put the Disney princesses in the photo and the wording. Thank you, Hailey for an awesome photo.

Launch Bay

We had big plans for the event, May the 4th be with you. But a very big storm came in and people were not going. So we had to make a last minute decision to make that drive down with the storm on top of us. We missed what turned out for the Orlando area to be less rain than we had. We made our Star Wars clothing and even got some lightsabers at a thrift store. We are ready for the next May the 4th, are you?
Ray and Joanie at the launch bay back in March. Look out for the little sand people. He took my phone and started to take 50+ pictures. That was so cool. We have since learned that they want to trade with you.
It was a very rainy day but the skies cleared so people got some great photos. We would like to point out that our good friend Mark was there that day and he got some nice shots even with with rain.

Do you remember where you

were when you first saw Star

Wars?

I lived in the L.A. area, Glendale and

Burbank. Burbank has the NBC

Tonight Show and Disney studios.

The year was 1977 and I was

downtown by Sunset Blvd. My mom

had come up from San Diego to see

some friends. I went down to the hotel and my mom asked what

is with all of the lights and the noise? I said that’s the premier of

the new movie Star Wars. That week a guy at work went to the

premier week showing. He

came back with a small

book that had lots of cool

looking pictures. I hope he

has that book today. When

was the last time you saw “filmed in 70mm film and stereo sound

track” on the marquee? I called my brother and said we should go see that new Star Wars movie. So he

come over with his 1962 Corvette to go to the drive-in. Do you know how much leg room there is in a 1962

Vette? So we went to one of the new drive-in theaters. The drive-in had 4 screens and two with FM radio.

You could turn and watch two more movies. Then the popcorn my brother made had so much salt on it

you could choke a cow. Then the movie started. The music was great but come on, John Williams wrote the

music. The first thing I remember was no credits at the start. At the end we started talking about how this

was just like the Wizard of OZ. You had Dorothy, the dog ( I will get your little dog or very big Chewbacca

too. ) I got the Star Wars sound track on vinyl. Growing up next to Hollywood was fun. I got the Hollywood

Reporter and Variety magazine to keep up with the new movies coming out and the budgets. But then

filming on a sound stage got be so costly they started filming on location. The late 1960’s and 1970’s were

the worst years for the movies. Hollywood was not doing the cast of thousands

anymore on a sound stage. We just got over all of the space movies and lots of

TV commercials because we went to the moon and everything was about outer

space in the 1960’s. Remember Tang orange juice? And

don’t forget the can opener that went to the moon. The VW

bug driving on the moon and they would say “it’s ugly but it

will get you there.” I saw so many commercials about outer

space junk for years. So I think that we were ready for a new

space movie and a happy movie. Not about the hippies and

the Vietnam war anymore. Filming was changing fast in

Hollywood at the time, just like it was in the 1930’s with

sound and then color. Computers were getting better and not made just for the big companies that used

them to keep track of data. So try to remember where you were and tell your story to someone. Star Wars

will be around for a very, very long time. Ray

Farewell, Carrie. You will be missed.

You’ll always be our princess Leia.
